EFOA Membership Terms & Conditions

1. Definitions
  • “EFOA” means the European Federation of Ocularists Association.
  • “Member” means any individual accepted as a member of EFOA upon payment of the membership fee and subject to these Terms & Conditions.
  • “Services” means all membership benefits including but not limited to access to the Learning Management System (LMS), patient referral system, conferences, seminars, publications, and other activities.
2. Nature of Membership

2.1 Membership does not create any agency, partnership, employment, joint venture, or representative relationship between the Member and EFOA.
2.2 Membership grants participation rights in EFOA activities but does not confer ownership, equity, or legal rights in the organization.
2.3 The role of Members in the General Assembly or committees is advisory only and non-binding.

3. Eligibility

3.1 Membership is open to professionals, trainees, or other individuals approved at the discretion of EFOA.
3.2 EFOA reserves the right to decline any application without obligation to provide reasons.

4. Membership Fees

4.1 Membership is subject to payment of an annual membership fee, the amount of which is indicated at checkout.
4.2 Membership commences upon payment and is valid for one (1) year.
4.3 Membership must be renewed annually by paying the applicable fee before expiry. Failure to pay will result in automatic revocation of membership.
4.4 All membership fees are non-refundable.
4.5 Membership operates on a subscription basis. By enrolling, you authorize EFOA to charge the annual membership fee automatically each year until you cancel your membership. Members may cancel their subscription at any time prior to the renewal date to avoid further charges.

5. Rights and Benefits of Membership
Members will receive access to:
  • The LMS and resources provided by EFOA.
  • The patient referral system.
  • EFOA conferences, seminars, and events (subject to registration requirements).
  • The opportunity to submit work for publication. 5.2 Submitted work remains the intellectual property of the author, but by submitting it for publication, the Member grants EFOA a royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, publish, and distribute such work.
6. Intellectual Property

6.1 Any materials, documents, or works created by a Member in the course of activities for EFOA shall be deemed the sole property of EFOA.
6.2 All EFOA trademarks, logos, and materials (including LMS content and publications) are the intellectual property of EFOA and protected under EU copyright law. Members may not use them without express written permission.
6.3 Members may not reproduce, distribute, or exploit EFOA’s materials for commercial purposes.

7. Conduct and Obligations of Members

7.1 Members must uphold professional standards and refrain from any action that may damage the reputation of EFOA.
7.2 Members are personally liable for their own activities, decisions, and professional conduct, including any patient interactions facilitated via the referral system.
7.3 Any information received through EFOA activities (including LMS, conferences, publications, or referrals) is for informational purposes only and used at the Member’s own discretion and risk.

8. Committees

8.1 Members may apply to join EFOA committees. Each committee has its own policy and procedures.
8.2 Membership in a committee requires acceptance of and adherence to those policies.
8.3 Committee work is voluntary, advisory in nature, and does not create any legal or fiduciary duties.

9. Termination of Membership

9.1 Members may resign at any time by providing written notice. Membership fees are non-refundable.
9.2 EFOA reserves the right to suspend or terminate membership at its sole discretion for:

  • Non-payment of fees.
  • Misuse of EFOA’s name, reputation, or resources.
  • Breach of these Terms & Conditions.
  • Misconduct or disciplinary reasons.
10. Liability

10.1 EFOA bears no liability for the acts, omissions, or professional conduct of Members. Members are fully responsible in their personal capacities.
10.2 EFOA does not provide medical, legal, or professional advice. All materials, events, publications, and referrals are for informational purposes only.
10.3 Participation in conferences, seminars, LMS activities, and referrals is at the Member’s sole risk.

11. Data Protection

Personal data provided by Members will be processed in accordance with the EFOA Privacy Policy.

12. Variation of Terms

EFOA may amend these Terms & Conditions from time to time. Continued membership constitutes acceptance of the amended terms.

13. Governing Law

13.1 These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Cyprus.
13.2 Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Republic of Cyprus.
